Tornados come up short against Huston-Tillotson

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Emily Newton notched her first collegiate goal on a bending strike into the corner of the net, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas women's soccer team fell to Huston-Tillotson 3-1 on Wednesday.

In the first half, the Tornados and Rams would remain in a scoreless battle for the first 30 minutes of the game. Huston-Tillotson, though, continued to press their offensive attack and broke through CTX's defense in the 38th minute to take a 1-0 lead after a corner kick.

The Tornados looked to tie it up late in the half but struggled offensively, recording only two shots and headed to the locker room trailing 1-0.

In the second half, CTX did not wait long to even the score as Kaycee Moore streaked down the right side of the field, finding Newton just inside the top of the box, where she struck a Beckham-bending shot into the top-left side of the net less than two minutes into the second period.

The Rams, would counter though, scoring goals in the 63rd minute and the 77th minute to take a 3-1 lead.

The Tornados would seek a late rally, but came up short, falling 3-1.

Goalkeeper Sofie Gomez finished the game with a season-high eight saves for the game as HT registered 20 total shots on the night.
