ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team came alive offensively in the second half, scoring three goals and rolled to a 3-0 win over LeTourneau on Saturday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
Meeting for the first time since the Tornados defeated the Yellow Jackets in the American Southwest Conference quarterfinals last season, CTX and LETU were gridlocked at 0-0 at the halfway point.
In the second half though, the Tornados would find their groove, breaking the tie with a goal in the 56th minute after
Bernabe Torres found
Edgar Guerrero at the back post on a cross from the left side, shooting it past the goalie.
It is Guerrero's third goal in his last two games after a two-goal performance against East Texas Baptist on Thursday.
Torres, meanwhile, would follow up with his own goal in the 66th minute after Uly Torres-Martinez played a ball over the top to Torres, who finished it into the left side of the net to make it 2-0.
Concordia Texas continued the offensive onslaught five minutes later as
Adrian Guerrero and
Marco Vazquez played a quick one-two pass between each other and Guerrero rocketed it past the goalie and pushed the lead to 3-0.
Goalkeeper
Erik Rodriguez would pick up four saves in the game and held LETU scoreless for his second shutout of the season as the Tornados moved to 4-4-1 on the season with the 3-0 win.
Next up, CTX will go on the road, facing University of the Ozarks on Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. in Clarksville, Ark.
