GEORGETOWN, Texas –
Jorge Garcia and
Michael Davis teamed up and won the flight B doubles championship as the Concordia Texas men's tennis team wrapped up their play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional on Saturday.
Garcia and Davis, who reached the finals of the bracket after winning their quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Friday, faced off against Southwestern's Max Pearson and Jeremy Wilson.
Garcia and Davis, would win two break points in the match and roll to an 8-4 win over the Pirates to clinch the flight B doubles title.
Elsewhere, in the singles matches, the Tornados continued to compete in flight B, C and D.
In flight D,
Corbin Hayes edged Schreiner's William Ueckert in a three-set thriller, including a 14-12 win in the decisive final set, to reach the championship match of the bracket. In the final though, Hayes came up short, falling to Austin College's Connor Crumly.
In flight C,
Jesse West's singles run ended in the quarterfinals, as he fell in a three-set heartbreaker to Schreiner's Austin Cervantes, dropping the final set 10-7.
In the final matches for CTX,
Riley O'Connor pulled out a tough win over Hardin-Simmons' Lance McClure in three sets to reach the flight B semifinals, where his run came to an end, retiring in the first set against Austin College's PJ Cabato.
Garcia, meanwhile, also in flight B, came up short in his quarterfinal match against Austin College's Preston Spivey, falling in straight sets.
The ITA regional concludes the fall season for the Tornados. The team will look to build on last season's success, which saw the program win its first conference division title and reach the conference tournament championship match for the first time in school history, in the spring.
