THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Concordia Texas volleyball team saw its perfect record come to an end on Saturday, falling to No. 5 Claremont Mudd-Scripps and Cal Lutheran on the final day of the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational.
The Tornados put its 6-0 unbeaten mark on the line against the Athenas, who rank No. 5 in the nation in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association coaches poll.
Concordia Texas was unable to gain the advantage against CMS and suffered its first loss of the season, 17-25, 22-25 and 14-25.
Marjani Myles recorded a team-high nine kills, while
Georgia Quiroz nearly registered a double-double with 10 assists and eight digs.
In the second match of the day, the Tornados faced the tournament host Regals. Concordia Texas would bounce back after dropping the first set, but were unable to force a fifth set, losing their second match of the day, 18-25, 25-17, 20-25 and 22-25.
After losing the first set to CLU, the Tornados would rally, opening the second set with a 14-6 run and never looked back as
Tristyn Massey's back-to-back service aces secure the set win and evened it at 1-all.
In the final two frames, CTX would keep the deficit close but was unable to close the gap, dropping both sets and the match.
Massey and
Taryn Alexander each finished with nine kills, while
Rylee Davis had a game-high 18 digs.
Next, the Tornados will return to Concordia Fieldhouse, where they will face Sul Ross State in their home and conference opener on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a rematch against St. Thomas (TX) 7:30 p.m.
