THOUSAND OAKS, Texas –
Bernabe Torres scored his first collegiate goal of his career but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Cal Lutheran on Sunday.
It was an early offensive explosion between the Tornados and Kingsmen in the first half as both teams notched a goal in the game's first 11 minutes.
Cal Lutheran struck first with a goal in the eighth minutes off a rebound in the box and led 1-0.
Torres, though, would not wait long to counter for CTX, scoring a goal off the left post from just outside of the box in the 11th minute, bringing the score level at 1-all.
Late in the half, Rodrigo Arrelano and
Cole McCue would each have goal-scoring opportunities for the Tornados, but the Kingsmen's Owen Ebner was there for the saves and the teams were tied at 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, neither team gave way as they approached the 80th minute.
Cal Lutheran, though, would take advantage of a corner kick in the 84th minute, heading in the go-ahead goal.
Concordia Texas searched for a last minute equalizer but McCue's shot in the 90th minute hit the crossbar and the Tornados fell short, 2-1.
Next up, CTX will return home for a non-conference clash against Schreiner on Friday at 6 p.m. from the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
