BOX SCORE ROUND ROCK, Texas –
Joel Abrego,
Rodrigo Arellano and
Cole McCue all scored and the Concordia Texas men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 shutout win over Schreiner on Friday.
The Tornados were on the offensive attack all night, registering 13 shots, six of them on goal.
Abrego opened the scoring for CTX, netting his first goal of the season in the 11th minute on an assist from
Edgar Guerrero and gave the team a 1-0 lead.
Arellano would double Tornados' lead in the 32nd minute, recording his second goal of the season off a corner kick by
Landon Nelson.
Concordia Texas' defense, meanwhile, held the Mountaineers to five shots in the first half with goalie
Erik Rodriguez tallying three saves. At the break, the Tornados led 2-0.
In the second half, Rodriguez and CTX continued to control the game as the sophomore out of San Antonio picked up five more saves.
In the 71st minute, the Tornados would push their lead to 3-0 as McCue netted his first collegiate goal.
Schreiner searched for their first goal of the game in the final minutes, but CTX did not break, rolling to a 3-0 win for their first shutout of the season.
Next, the Tornados will return on the road, traveling to Victoria, Texas on Sunday to take on Houston-Victoria at 3:30 p.m.
