Holiday's double-double not enough as Tornados fall to Ozarks

AUSTIN, Texas – Tommy Holiday notched his first career double-double, recording 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas men's basketball team fell short to Ozarks 75-67 on Saturday inside Concordia Fieldhouse.

Three Tornados scored in double figures led by Alexander Estrada, who shot 7-of-11 from the field, producing a career-high 18 points before fouling out late in the second half.

Concordia Texas shot 48 percent from the field in the first half, but committed 20 turnovers as a team, which the Eagles converted into 17 points. Ozarks built their largest lead of the game, a 12-point advantage, after Seth Duke's free throw with 4:54 left.

The Tornados countered though, reeling off eight straight points, including four points from Philip Meikle to cut the deficit to four late in the half.

The Eagles extended their lead in the final minutes of the half though, and held a 38-30 lead as the teams headed to the locker room.

Holiday nearly had a double-double at halftime, scoring eight points in the period and grabbing six rebounds.

In the second half, Concordia Texas began to find a rhythm, putting together a 15-3 run to retake the lead and held a 55-51 advantage after Estrada knocked down his fourth 3-pointer of the game.

The Tornados took their largest lead of the day at the 6:44 mark after Zaid Harris hit a pair of free throws to make 61-56.

Ozarks, though, scored 19 of the next 25 points to take the lead for good, defeating CTX 75-67.

Gonzales was the second-leading scorer for the Tornados, producing 13 of his 17 points in the second half along with a pair of steals and two rebounds. It is the third straight game Gonzales has finished in double figures.

The Tornados will next head out on the road to Pineville, La., facing Louisiana College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
