Three-point barrage leads Tornados past Louisiana College

PINEVILLE, La. – Three Tornados scored in double figures, led by Madi Maxwell's team-high 18 points, and the Concordia Texas women's basketball team routed Louisiana College 78-49 on Thursday inside the H.O West Fieldhouse.

The Tornados put on a shooting clinic on the night, hitting 14 3-pointers as a team, led by Kaycie Dunkerley, who shot 40 percent from downtown. Maxwell, meanwhile, nearly recorded a double-double, pouring in 18 points on 13 shots and grabbing eight rebounds, including four on the offensive end.

It was all Concordia Texas from the opening tip as they shot 50 percent from the floor in the first quarter and led 21-9 after one. The Tornados did most of their damage from 3-point land, making five 3-pointers in the period.

In the second quarter, the Tornados broke open the game, opening the frame on a 14-5 run. Dunkerley, led the charge, scoring six points in the quarter and had a team-high 11 points at the end of the half as CTX held a 41-18 advantage heading into the locker room.

In the second half, the Tornados outscored LC 37-31, including a 21-point quarter in the third period. Maxwell found her shooting stroke with nine second half points on a perfect 4-of-4 mark from the field.

Concordia Texas took their largest lead of the game midway through the fourth after Alyssa Marquez knocked down one of her two 3-pointers on the night to extend the lead to 70-32.

Defensively, the Tornados held the Wildcats to 35 percent shooting from the floor, cruising to a 78-49 win.

Dunkerley finished the night with 14 points and three assists, while Natalie Velardez reached double figures with 10 points and pulled down six rebounds. Havyn Perez, meanwhile, dished out eight assists and grabbed four boards in the victory.

Next, CTX will travel to Jackson, Miss., to face Belhaven on Saturday at 1 p.m., looking to push their win streak to three in a row.
