LONGVIEW, Texas –
Ronnie Hamilton scored a career-high 23 points, including 21 of them coming in the second half, but the Concordia Texas men's basketball team's rally was too little, too late, falling to LeTourneau 103-92 on Thursday.
The Tornados shot 49 percent from the field and nearly came back from a 22-point second half deficit, cutting it to seven after
Gonzalo Munoz's pair of free throws late in the game, but ran out of time.
In the first half, Concordia Texas and the YellowJackets went back and forth on the scoreboard as there were six lead changes and seven ties.
Trevon Hester gave the Tornados a 36-35 advantage in the final minutes of the half after his fast break layup, but LETU responded with a quick 6-0 spurt to regain the lead and CTX headed to the locker room, trailing 41-38.
Meikle, fresh off his 33-point performance on senior day and becoming the 18th player in program history to score 1000 points in a career, had seven points at midway point, while
Antoine Henderson had a team-high eight points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field.
In the second half, the YellowJackets broke the game open, starting the period on a 25-6 run, taking their largest lead of the night, 66-44, at the 13:05 mark.
The Tornados did not go down without a fight though as Hamiton caught fire offensively, scoring 19 of his 23 points in the final nine minutes of the game. He cut the deficit to single digits at 95-87 after his fast break layup with 1:28 to go on the clock.
He followed that up with a 3-pointer, but his second half heroics were not enough as CTX fell short to LETU 103-92.
Hamilton finished the game with a career-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting and four rebounds. Meikle and Henderson also finished in double figures, finishing the game with 13 points and 11 points, respectively.
Jordan Berry, meanwhile, scored a career-high 11 points off the bench, including a 3-for-5 mark from downtown.
Tommy Holiday nearly had a double-double, grabbing seven rebounds and adding nine points.
The Tornados will look to snap their two-game skid on Saturday when they face East Texas Baptist at 3 p.m. in Marshall, Texas.
