Madi Maxwell scored 17 points,
Kennedy Donovan added a career-high 14 points, but the Concordia Texas women's basketball team fell short to Sul Ross State 62-57 on Thursday at the Gallego Center.
Maxwell shot 8-of-17 from the field, pouring in a team-high 17 points, while Donovan scored nine of her 14 points in the first half.
The Tornados opened the game on a 13-2 run, led by Maxwell, who scored seven straight points during the run. Concordia Texas scored 10 points in the paint in the quarter and led 18-10 after one.
The Lobos climbed back into the game in the second quarter, outscoring CTX 18-11. Donovan knocked down a bucket in the final minute and the Tornados took a 29-28 advantage into halftime.
In the third quarter, SRSU retook the lead as the Tornados struggled offensively, shooting 4-for-18 in the frame and trailed 48-43 going into the fourth.
Maxwell scored six points in the final period and gave CTX their first lead of the quarter after a layup with 6:44 remaining. The Lobos, though, scored 12 of the next 16 points and the Tornados were unable to recover, falling 62-57.
Natalie Velardez finished the night with a team-high seven rebounds and added five points, while
Alyssa Marquez also have five points.
Concordia Texas will close out its regular season on Saturday, facing Howard Payne on the road at 1 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas.
