AUSTIN, Texas –
Owen Hill's RBI single in the ninth forced extra innings, but the Concordia Texas baseball team could not complete the comeback, falling to Southwestern 6-5 on Tuesday at Tornado Field.
The Tornados trailed the Pirates 5-3 heading into the eighth inning, but did not go down easily.
Concordia Texas scratched across a run in the eighth after
Ryan Clouse was caught in a rundown between first and second, but not before
Kalen Moreno was able to score from third and cut the deficit in half.
In the ninth,
Jacob Gwynne worked a one-out walk and was replaced by
Marcus Thach as a pinch-runner. He moved to second on a
Bret Leiferman ground out and came home to score on Hill's two-out RBI single to right, tying the game up at 5-all.
Concordia Texas' pitching tossed back to back scoreless frames in extras but were unable to keep Southwestern off the board in the 12th as they took advantage of an error and went up 6-5.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Tornados once again worked their magic with back to back two-out singles, but
Dakota Limon grounded out to first to end the game as CTX fell to the Pirates 6-5.
Hill finished the night with the lone hit and two RBIs after working an RBI walk in the Tornados' three-run fifth inning.
Grayson Lee and
Ryan Clouse, meanwhile, each had a pair of hits as CTX's three-game win streak came to an end.
Head Coach
Tommy Boggs remains at 299 coaching wins in his career and will go for No. 300 on Friday when the Tornados welcome Louisiana College into town for a three-game series, which will begin with a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
