Tornados' comeback bid falls short against George Fox

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas –  Grayson Lee had the big two-run single in a five-run seventh, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas baseball team fell to George Fox 15-7 in the final day of the Rusty Greer/Jackie Moore Collegiate Classic on Sunday at Air Hog Stadium.

The Tornados fell behind early for the third game in a row as the Bruins pushed across a run in the third inning before breaking the game open with a seven-run fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead.

Concordia Texas was scoreless through the game's first six innings, recording only two hits.

In the seventh, the Tornados' bats woke up.

Concordia Texas loaded the bases after Josh Burnett led off the inning with a triple followed by back-to-back walks to Dakota Limon and Corbin Cross. Lee line a singled up the middle to score two runs and cut the deficit to 8-2.

Kalen Moreno continued the inning, working a walk to reload the bases. Ian Perez followed with a sacrifice fly to score Cross. The Tornados added two more runs in the inning after an RBI double by Mason DuBois and a Riley Becker RBI ground out, trailing 8-5 after seven frames.

In the ninth, George Fox posted another seven-run inning to widen their lead to 15-5.

Concordia Texas scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning, falling short to the Bruins 15-7 to conclude the tournament.

Lee finished the day going 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored, while DuBois had a hit and drove in a pair.

The Tornados will return to Tornado Field for their first home game of the season on Friday when they host the Concordia Classic, facing La Verne at 5 p.m.
