BOX SCORE KERRVILLE, Texas – After dropping two of the three doubles matches, the Concordia Texas men's tennis team swept all six singles matchups and opened their 2020 campaign on a winning note, defeating Schreiner 7-2 on Saturday.
Jorge Garcia and
Evan Pena Jr. teamed up at line three doubles, winning it 8-1 for the Tornados lone win among the doubles matches.
Concordia Texas remained confident though, winning all six matches in singles play.
Robin Van Der Heijden and
Adrian Munguia took care of business in their singles matches, winning in straight sets at line one and two, respectively.
Esteban Arredondo, meanwhile, split the first two sets against Carson Kirk, before pulling out a 7-5 win in the decisive set at line three.
Michael Davis, along with Garcia and Pena Jr., all won their matches in straight sets at line four, five and six, securing the first win of the season for the Tornados, respectively.
Concordia Texas will return to the courts on Sunday, when they host St. Thomas (TX) in their home opener at 11 a.m. at the River Place Country Club in Austin, Texas.
