KERRVILLE, Texas –
Maria Arroyo's two-run double in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Concordia Texas softball team held off a late comeback to defeat Schreiner 5-4 on Tuesday.
Seven different Tornados recorded a hit on the night, led by
Sarah Brooks' 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while had the clutch hit in the sixth.
Leading 3-1 after five frames, CTX looked to pad their lead.
After a strikeout to open the sixth,
Maddy Ellison and Brooks followed with a double and single, respectively. Brooks stole a base to put runners in scoring position for
Maria Arroyo, who entered the batter's box hitless on the night. She ripped a one-out double to score both Ellison and Brooks and extended the Tornados' lead to 5-1.
The Mountaineers countered with two of their own runs in the bottom half of the inning, cutting CTX's advantage to 5-3.
In the final frame,
