Tornados' offense too much for McMurry

AUSTIN, Texas – Four Tornados scored in double figures, including Kennedy Donovan and Allie Garza with 13 points each, and Concordia Texas powered past McMurry 67-61 to pick up their first home win of the season on Saturday.

Donovan did most of her damage from deep, going 3-of-7 from behind the arc, and Madi Maxwell posted a near double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.

CTX came out of the gates hot, starting the game on a 10-5 run behind big jumpers from Donovan and Falyn Taylor. The Tornados continued their offensive onslaught for the remainder of the quarter, leading 22-12 behind seven points from Garza in the quarter.

The Tornados' offensive flurries continued in the second period, shooting 45.5% from the field and 40% from three-point land in the quarter. Donovan led the attack with eight points, and CTX took a 40-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The War Hawks did their best to close the gap at the start of the second half, opening with an 8-5 before the Tornados pulled away again, outscoring McMurry 14-11 in the quarter. Wendel'Lyn Moblin scored four points in the quarter, and Zakari Perry connected from deep to guide CTX to a 54-36 lead with one period left to play.

The Tornados struggled in the fourth quarter, outscored 25-13 in the final frame, but ultimately they were able to close out the game behind as two free throws from Garza proved to be the dagger.

Taylor finished with 10 points and six rebounds, and Moblin posted 10 points to go along with a block.

The Tornados are back in action on the road next Thursday, traveling to Brownwood, Texas to face off against Howard Payne at 5:30 p.m.
