MARSHALL, Texas –
Sarah Ghormley racked up a season-high 17 digs and posted her third straight double-double as the Concordia Texas volleyball team won their second match in a row with a sweep of East Texas Baptist on Thursday.
The Tornados continued their four-match road trip and entered the game coming off a thrilling five-set win over McMurry last Saturday. Ghormley and
Kylexus Block each had 10 kills on the night to take down the Tigers in three sets, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-23.
In the first set, CTX used a quick 5-0 run to jump out to the early lead over ETBU. Ghormley had seven digs in the set along with three kills and won five of the final six points to take a 1-0 lead.
In the following set, the Tornados had their best attack percentage of the night, hitting at a .267 mark and tallying 12 kills. Ghormley and Block combined for seven kills in the frame in another wire-to-wire win.
In the final set, CTX fell behind late 22-16 after a Tigers service ace. The Tornados did not go away though, stringing together a 7-1 spurt to tie the game up at 23-all.
An ETBU attack error followed by a Block kill clinched the match for CTX, securing their fourth sweep of the season.
Kaitlyn Ruiz and
Krystal Gundy each finished with 14 assists for the night, while
Avery Smith tallied 10 digs in the win.
The Tornados will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Jackson, Miss., for a conference matchup against Belhaven on Friday at 7 p.m.
