ROUND ROCK, Texas –
Patricia Heckendorn fired two goals, including the late game-winner, and lifted the Concordia Texas women's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Belhaven on Thursday.
Staring down a 1-0 deficit, Heckendorn scored two goals in the span of 11 minutes, knocking in the game-winner in the 82nd minute to secure a 2-1 win for the Tornados.
The Tornados pressed the attack early on, firing six shots in the opening 23 minutes, but were unable to come away with a goal despite
Emma Visser,
Kaley Kaspar, and
Elisa LeBoeuf each registering a strike on-goal.
The Blazers were able to find some scoring opportunities as well, firing six shots in the first half, but
Lora Tresco preserved the tie with a pair of saves, keeping the score at 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, Belhaven was the first team to find the back net, taking a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 54th minute.
In the 71st minute, the Tornados' comeback effort began as Heckendorn nailed the equalizer, bringing the score to 1-1.
Eleven minutes later, Heckendorn struck again, providing the game-winner on an assist from
Emily Mowrer and giving the Tornados a 2-1 advantage with just eight minutes left to play.
The Blazers found one more scoring chance in the 88th minute, but a clutch save from Tresco sealed the 2-1 victory over Belhaven in a heart-stopping ASC matchup.
With their second straight win, the Tornados advance to a 6-1 record in ASC play, looking to continue their stellar play as they host Dallas Christian College for a non-conference matchup. The match will kick off at 5 p.m. on Sunday at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
