ROUND ROCK, Texas –
Marco Vazquez scored a pair of goals for the third game in a row and the Concordia Texas men's soccer team pushed their unbeaten streak to seven straight with a dominating 5-0 victory over Belhaven on Thursday.
The Tornados returned home after a two-game road trip, hosting the Blazers in a rematch of last season's conference tournament quarterfinal.
Concordia Texas' offense was firing on all cylinders once again, scoring at least five goals in a single game for the fourth time this season.
Meanwhile, defensively, the Tornados allowed only five shots on the night, none on frame, to record their sixth straight shutout and extending their school record shutout streak to 530:35 minutes of play.
In the first half, CTX wasted no time offensively, scoring the game's first goal in the 10th minute as
Bernabe Torres played a cross into the box into
Melvin Molina, who found
Xavier Polk for the header into the back of the net to give the Tornados' a 1-0 lead.
Molina would be a factor in CTX's ensuing goal in the 16th minute, as he found
Victor Gomez at the back post on a corner kick, doubling the team's advantage.
Molina finished the night with two assists, bringing his season total to eight and tying the school's single-season assist record held by
Joel Abrego set back in 2018.
Yael Sanchez continued the offensive outburst in the 33rd minute, scoring the first goal of his career off a free kick, where he curled it into the back of the net.
Marco Vazquez, just before the end of the half, put the Tornados up 4-0 with a header off
Gavin Seesholtz's cross into the box.
In the second half, Vazquez notched his second goal of the night, this one coming in the 56th minute, as he smashed the rebound off of
Antonio Rios' shot into the open net and extended CTX's lead.
Vazquez is now up to 21 career goals in his collegiate career, four away from the program's all-time career goal-scoring record held by Omar Vazquez.
Meanwhile,
Joshua Redding, who earned his second straight conference defensive player of the week award back on Monday, combined with
Arlen Oni to preserve the shutout as CTX cruised to a 5-0 win.
The Tornados are now unbeaten in their last seven matches, three away from tying the school's longest unbeaten streak set back in 2019.
Up next, CTX will remain at home and host Hardin-Simmons in a conference matchup on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
