AUSTIN, Texas –
Kylexus Block recorded her fourth double-double of the year, tallying a game-high 15 kills and 10 digs and the Concordia Texas volleyball team returned to the win column, completing a sweep of Howard Payne on Saturday.
The Tornados entered the match after a heartbreaking defeat to Sul Ross State on Friday, falling in four sets, but bounced back against the Yellow Jackets, winning in three sets 25-18, 25-17 and 25-23.
Block led the way, racking up 15 kills and 10 digs. It is her third straight game with double-digit kills.
Sarah Ghormley, meanwhile, continued her excellent play offensively, registering 13 kills and five service aces.
In the first set, Ghormley hit at a .333 mark and totaled five kills as CTX finished with 14 in the frame.
Knotted up at 9-all, the Tornados pulled away utilizing a 9-3 run, capped off by an
Audri Crawford service ace and took a 1-0 lead.
In the second frame, CTX had their best performance of the match offensively, hitting at a .258 mark. Ghormley and Block each had four kills in the set, while
Alyssa Legette racked up 10 assists.
Howard Payne, who trailed by as much as seven in the set, cut it to 19-16 after a CTX error. The Tornados responded with a 6-1 spark and went up 2-0 in the match.
In the final set, there was 13 ties and six lead changes in a back-and-forth affair.
Tied at 20-20, CTX used a quick 3-0 spurt to regain the lead for good, finished off by a
Kaitlyn Ruiz service ace. Ghormley clinched the match with a kill as the Tornados recorded their third sweep of the season.
Concordia Texas finished the match with 10 service aces, reaching double figures for the fourth time this season.
Next, the Tornados will conclude their homestand, hosting Southwestern in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
