AUSTIN, Texas – Three players registered double-digit kills and the Concordia Texas volleyball team closed out the fifth set on a 6-1 run to seal their first win over UT Dallas since 2014 in a back-and-forth affair on Saturday.
The Tornados have now won six straight matches, their longest win streak since winning seven in a row back in 2019.
Nicole Deering had a career-high 15 kills,
Sarah Ghormley and
Alyssa Legette added double-double performances to take down the Comets in five sets 25-23, 14-25, 25-20, 20-25 and 16-14.
The teams headed to a decisive fifth set after the Comets evened the match at 2-all by winning the fourth frame.
In the fifth set, the teams had nine ties and two lead changes.
Concordia Texas pulled in front 8-7 after Ghormley's kill, but the Comets were quick to respond, using a 6-2 spurt to take a 13-10 lead.
The Tornados did not go away though, led by a pair of kills from Deering and UTD attack errors, CTX completed a 6-1 run to finish off the Comets for their first victory over the program since 2014.
Deering had a career day, hitting at a .333 mark, recording a personal-best 15 kills. Meanwhile, Legette had a near triple-double, recording a career-high seven kills along with 43 assists and 13 digs.
Ghormley added 14 kills and a game-high 17 digs, while
Kylexus Block led the offensive attack with 16 kills.
Concordia Texas will look to extend their win streak to seven, going on the road for a matchup against Howard Payne on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas.
