BROWNWOOD, Texas –
Sarah Ghormley recorded a game-high 20 digs and added 10 kills for her 11th double-double of the season and the Concordia Texas volleyball team rolled to their seventh win in a row, defeating Howard Payne 3-0 on Tuesday.
The Tornados, coming off their first win over UT Dallas since 2014 last Saturday, traveled on the road one final time in the regular season, taking care of the Yellow Jackets with their fifth sweep of the season 25-11, 25-23 and 25-17.
Concordia Texas was dominate offensively throughout the match, recording at least 15 kills in each set.
In the opening frame, seven different Tornados registered a kill, including five from
Kylexus Block. The team finished the set with a hitting percentage of .484, controlling the frame from the first serve.
Howard Payne responded in the following set as the teams had a back-and-forth battle, recording nine ties and four lead changes.
Ghormley, along with
Alyssa Legette and
Jaya McCarty, each had four kills in the frame. Tied at 23-all, McCarty gave CTX the lead for good with a kill followed by a Yellow Jackets' attack error to go up 2-0 in the match.
McCarty finished with eight kills on the night, tying her season-best. Legette, meanwhile, had a career-high eight kills along with no errors.
In the final set, Ghormley and Block combined for nine of the Tornados' 15 kills, opening with a 10-4 run and never looked back to secure their seventh consecutive win.
The seven-match win streak is the program's longest win streak since winning seven in a row back in 2019.
Block finished the night with 10 kills at a .333 hitting percentage, while
Kaitlyn Ruiz reached double figures in digs for the 10th time this season, tallying 12 on the night.
Concordia Texas will conclude the regular season on Friday, hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor at 6 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse, where the program will celebrate senior day pregame.
