ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team put on an offensive display, netting four goals in a 4-1 victory over McMurry to extend their winning streak to six on Saturday.
The Tornados scored two goals in each half, including two within a minute of one another, and coasted to a 4-1 win on senior day.
Prior to the match, Concordia Texas took time to honor
Zack Kusak,
Victor Gomez, and
Adrian Guerrero, the program's three seniors, for their accomplishments both on and off the field during their time as Tornados.
In the first half,
Xavier Polk began the game with a bang, striking for his fifth goal of the season in the fifth minute. Guerrero and
Antonio Rios assisted on the play, setting up Polk for the goal, and the Tornados took an early 1-0 lead.
In the 36th minute,
Marco Vazquez extended the CTX lead to 2-0 with a goal after an assist from
Theo Givens. It is Vazquez's 10th goal of the year, and it marks his fifth straight game with a goal scored.
The score held pat for the remainder of the half, and the Tornados took a 2-0 advantage to the midway point.
After a slow start to the second half,
Melvin Molina provided a spark with his fifth goal of the year after an assist from
Timothy Barney. Molina extended the CTX lead to 3-0 in the 67th minute.
Less than a minute later, CTX put another number on the board courtesy of a goal from
Theo Givens, assisted by
Carlos Huato on the play. Givens' second goal of the season advanced the Tornados' lead to 4-0 in the 68th minute.
The War Hawks managed a goal in the 69th minute, but solid play defensively saw that was all McMurry came away with it. After 90 minutes, Concordia Texas walked away with a commanding 4-1 victory.
Riding a six-match winning streak, the Tornados will close out their regular season schedule in Belton, Texas on Friday, traveling for a matchup with Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:30 pm.
