Tornados close out regular season, fall to Mary Hardin-Baylor on senior night

AUSTIN, Texas – Three Tornados recorded a double-double in the match, but the Concordia Texas volleyball team fell short, coming away on the wrong end of a 3-1 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday.

The match being both the regular season finale and senior night, Concordia Texas took a moment to honor the team's two seniors, Kylexus Block and Alyssa Legette, for their accomplishments on and off the court during their time as Tornados.

Block and Legette each recorded a double-double on the night, as Block racked up 15 kills and 14 digs while Legette ended the match with 37 assists and 10 digs.

Sarah Ghormley was the third CTX player to post a double-double, tallying 14 kills and 16 digs.

The opening set began with the teams trading blows, as a kill from Abi Hilpert evened the score at 8-8 early on, but the Cru closed out the frame with a 6-1 run and took the first set 25-18. Ghormley led the way with four kills in the frame, and Block added three of her own.

In the second set, the Tornados jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead behind three kills from Savannah Kari, but a 7-2 run from UMHB saw them back within striking distance at 12-11. The score remained close, but a 6-1 CTX run down the stretch secured a 25-18 set win for the Tornados, evening the score at 1-1.

Ghormley recorded four kills in the third set, but Concordia Texas was unable to close the gap after a 5-0 run gave Mary Hardin-Baylor an 18-12. Ultimately, the Tornados dropped the third set 25-18 and fell behind 2-1.

In the final set, CTX ran out to an early 8-2 lead thanks to a pair of kills from Block and kills from Jaya McCarty and Hilpert, but UMHB fought their way back and evened the score at 15-15. The two teams went back and forth, but the Tornados came up short 25-23 in the final set, falling 3-1 to the Cru.

McCarty totaled six kills and five blocks at the net, and Kari swung for eight kills on the night.

With the book shut on the regular season, the Tornados will look towards the ASC Tournament in Belton, Texas, as they will begin their postseason campaign with a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday with the time and opponent to be determined.
