ABILENE, Texas –
Kylexus Block totaled seven kills and 12 blocks, but the Concordia Texas volleyball team came up short, falling 3-0 on the road to Hardin-Simmons on Friday.
Block recorded her third straight match with double-digit digs, as well as adding a block and a service ace to the stat sheet.
The Tornados were unable to get their attack going in the first two sets, dropping the frames by scores of 25-16 and 25-14, respectively. In the third set, CTX jumped out to an early lead, but a resilient HSU team fought back and won the match with a 25-20 score in the final frame.
In the first set, a kill from
Audri Crawford put the first CTX point on the board, evening the score at 1-1, and three kills from
Sarah Ghormley kept the Tornados within striking range trailing 11-9. From this point, the Cowgirls pulled away, winning the set 25-16 despite a pair of kills from
Jaya McCarty down the stretch.
The Tornados took an early 6-3 lead in the second set behind a pair of kills from Block, but an 11-3 run from HSU saw the Cowgirls reverse the score and lead 14-9. Ultimately, Concordia Texas fell 25-14 in the second set.
Down two sets to one, the Tornados erupted for a 12-5 start in the third frame, receiving a pair of service aces from Crawford. However, HSU answered with a 12-3 run, taking a 17-15 lead and never looking back, ultimately taking the third set 25-20.
Ghormley recorded seven kills and seven digs, and Gundy totaled 18 assists and four digs on the night.
Concordia Texas will continue their road stint on Saturday, facing off with ASC foe McMurry in Abilene, Texas at 2 pm.
