Alyssa Legette set a career-high with 55 assists,
Sarah Ghormley and
Kylexus Block both racked up 20-plus kills and the Concordia Texas volleyball team knocked off McMurry 3-2 in a five-setter on Saturday.
The Tornados continued their two-day Abilene, Texas road trip, facing conference foe the War Hawks in their first meeting this season and came away with a five-set victory in a back-and-forth affair 25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 24-26 and 15-13.
Legette, Ghormley and Block all had key performances on the afternoon as each finished with a double-double.
Legette, a senior out of Round Rock, Texas, set a career-high in assists for the fourth time this season, besting her previous mark with a game-high 55 assists. She also reached double figures in digs for the fourth straight match, finishing with 11, and tallied her seventh double-double of the season.
Meanwhile, Ghormley and Block were forces to be reckoned with offensively combining for 48 of the team's 69 kills on the day.
Block had her best showing of the season, totaling a career-high 23 kills as well as 20 digs for her sixth double-double. It is the second time this season she has finished with 20-plus kills and digs in a single match.
Ghormley continued her success on the offensive end, recording 20-plus kills for the fourth time this season and has reached double figures in kills in 14 of the team's 17 games this year. She also added 16 digs defensively for her sixth double-double.
The Tornados won the third set in dominating fashion, holding McM to a .000 hitting percentage and only five kills in the frame. Concordia Texas, leading 15-10, utilized a 10-4 run to pull away and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The War Hawks forced a decisive fifth set with a come-from-behind win in the fourth frame that included six ties.
In the final set, Block came up clutch for the Tornados, recording four kills.
Tied up at 12-all, Block gave CTX the lead for good with a kill off an assist from Legette.
Savannah Kari, who had a near double-double of her own, sealed the victory with her sixth kill of the day as the Tornados won it 3-2.
Kari finished with a career-high 10 digs, while
Jaya McCarty had eight kills on the day and added four total blocks in the middle.
Concordia Texas will stay on the road, traveling to Marshall, Texas, for a showdown against East Texas Baptist on Thursday at 6 p.m.
