Tornados notch first win of the season behind game-winner from Heckendorn

AUSTIN, Texas – Patricia Heckendorn and Kallie Krenz knocked in a pair of goals, lifting the Concordia Texas women's soccer team to their first victory of the season over Howard Payne 2-0 on Thursday.

The Tornados' offense was firing on all cylinders as they netted two goals on a whopping 15 shots, 10 of which were on-goal.

On the defensive side, CTX held steady and Elizabeth Jones saw all 90 minutes of the shutout in the goal, picking up two saves.

Concordia Texas applied pressure on the offensive end from the start, Krenz firing two shots in the first 10 minutes of play. Jenna Townsley had the third shot of the game in the 20th minute, delivering a strike to the top left corner of the goal, but the HPU goalkeeper came down with the save.

Jones recorded her first save in the 27th minute, holding off Howard Payne's best scoring opportunity of the day and preserving the tie. After 45 minutes of play, the game was locked in a 0-0 stalemate.

The Tornados' offense came alive in the second half as they recorded 12 of their 15 total shots after the break.

In the 65th minute, Heckendorn knocked in the game-winning goal, the first of her career and the Tornados' first score of the season. Just seven minutes later, Krenz followed with a goal of her own, also the first of her career.

The Tornados' defense continued their stout play in the second half, allowing only two shots, and a save from Jones in the final minutes completed CTX's second shutout of the season.

Heckendorn led the charge offensively throughout the game, and in addition to her game-winning score recorded three shots on-goal.

The Tornados will complete the home-and-home with Howard Payne on Saturday, traveling to Brownwood for the regular season finale at 1 p.m.
