Hooper's career-best performance leads Tornados past McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – Megan Hooper had a career-high four-hit day, driving in a pair of run and the Concordia Texas softball team salvaged the series with a 5-3 win over McMurry on Saturday at Edwards Field.

Hooper entered the day having recorded at least in a hit in eight of her last nine games and continued the streak against the War Hawks, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.

Bailey Tisdale, meanwhile, coming off tying the program's single-game strikeout record for the second time this season on Friday, tossed a complete game, allowing only three runs on seven hits and punched out seven hitters on the day to pick up her 10th win of the season.

Concordia Texas and McMurry were in a back-and-forth battle in the game's opening two frames as each team pushed across a run in each inning and were tied at 2-all heading to the third.

In the sixth, the Tornados broke the tie for good with a two-run outburst.

Anissa Garcia led off with a triple and came around to score on Ashley Soto's RBI single to right. Cristina Ayala continued the inning with a walk and Hooper followed with a bunt single to load the bases. Emily Moses drove in her second run of the game with a sac fly to center and gave CTX a 4-2 lead.

The War Hawks responded with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Tornados' lead to one.

In the seventh though, Hooper provided Tisdale and CTX with an insurance run, ripping an RBI single up the middle to score Ashley Hallmark and pushed the lead back to a two-run advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh, Tisdale found herself in trouble as McM loaded the bases on a one-out walk. The Santa Fe, Texas native stay composed though, striking out her seventh batter of the game and inducing a fly out to right to seal the 5-3 win.

Ayala finished the game with a pair of hits, two walks and a run scored, while Garcia and Soto each had two-hit performances. Moses, meanwhile went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the win.

The Tornados will return to Tornados Softball Field for their final home series of the regular season, playing host to Sul Ross State in a three-game set. The teams will kick off the series with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 5 p.m.
