Moses, Tornados complete sweep of Sul Ross State

AUSTIN, Texas – Emily Moses had a career day at the plate, going 4-for4 with four RBIs and hitting her first career home run as the Concordia Texas softball team defeated Sul Ross State in a doubleheader on Saturday to complete the sweep.

The Tornados were seeking their third three-game sweep of the season after defeating the Lobos 3-1 on Friday night.

In game one, CTX trailed through the first five innings, but a two-run sixth inning rally sparked by a Moses leadoff single led to a come-from-behind 4-3 win.

The Lobos struck first, pushing across a pair of runs in the third inning to take an early 2-0 lead.

The Tornados responded quickly though, scoring two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Hailee Tinajero led off the frame with a double. After a sac bunt moved the runner over, Ashley Soto drove in the team's first run of the game on a sac fly to center to cut it to 2-1. The inning continued thanks to a Cristina Ayala single, followed by Megan Hooper's RBI double down the line to knot it up at 2-all.

Sul Ross State went back in front in the fifth, scratching across a run on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the sixth, Moses led off with a single and reached second on a sac bunt. Ashley Hallmark followed, reaching third on a Lobos fielding error, which allowed Moses to score and tie the game up one again. The Tornados went in front 4-3 on Tinajero's RBI ground out later in the frame.

Meanwhile, in the circle, Simone Langland settled for a no decision after tossing five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Heather Casiano entered in relief in the sixth and picked up her first win of the season, allowing only a walk and striking out one to shut down SRSU.

Between games, CTX honored its six seniors, Casiano, Anissa Garcia, Hallmark, Langland, Soto and Taylor Verinsky.

In game two, the Tornados racked up 10 hits, led by Moses four-hit performance and never looked back, winning 9-1 by run-rule in six innings to complete the sweep.

After a Lobos run in the opening inning, CTX responded right away with a pair of runs on RBI hits from Erica Riley and Moses to take a 2-1 advantage.

In the third, the Tornados batted around and broke open the game with a four-run frame to extend the lead to 6-1.

Concordia Texas tacked on another run in the fourth on Moses third hit of the day, an RBI single to score Hooper and make it 7-1.

In the sixth, Moses ended the game with a two-run rocket to dead center, finishing off the game and the sweep over SRSU.

Moses finished with a career-high four hits, four RBIs and her first career home run in the win. Emily Schmuck had a pair of hits and an RBI, while Riley and Hooper each scored twice.

In the circle, Bailey Tisdale registered her 11th win of the win, spreading out eight hits over six innings and allowing the lone run.

The Tornados will return to the road, heading to Brownwood, Texas for a three-game set against Howard Payne. The series will begin on Friday, playing in a doubleheader with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
