Tisdale, Langland dominant in doubleheader sweep of Howard Payne

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Ashley Hallmark's go-ahead RBI double in the sixth broke a scoreless game and the Concordia Texas softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Howard Payne on Friday at Lady Jacket Park.

In the first game, the Tornados jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the first three innings and never looked back, holding the Yellow Jackets to only four hits and securing a 5-3 victory.

Four different players had at least two hits for the game, led by Hallmark's first three-hit game of the season, scoring a run and driving in another.

In the opening frame, CTX took advantage of an HPU error to continue the inning and scored four runs.

Erica Riley opened the scoring with an RBI single to score Cristina Ayala, who led off the game with a hit and a stolen base. Emily Moses followed, reaching on a fielding error to put two runners on. One out later, Hallmark beat out an infield single and scored Riley to make it 2-0.

Garcia doubled the Tornados' lead with a bases-clearing, two-run double to right-center and push the lead up to 4-0.

In the third inning, Tinajero extended the lead with an RBI single to score Emily Schmuck.

It was all Bailey Tisdale needed on the day, as she tossed a complete game, spreading out four hits and allowing only one earned run, while striking out four for her 13th win of the season.

The Yellow Jackets would stage a late rally in the seventh, scoring two runs after a Tornado error extended the inning. Tisdale stayed composed though, inducing a fly out to strand a pair of runners and secure the win.

In the second game of the day, which included a lightning delay in the third inning, a pitcher's duel broke out as neither team was able to cross the plate until Hallmark's clutch hit in the sixth and CTX held on for a 1-0 win.

Langland was dominant throughout the game, allowing only one hit and walking three to record her first shutout of the season.

Despite only having two hits through the game's first five innings, Emily Schmuck and Hallmark provided enough offense for the Tornados in the sixth.

Schmuck, who had already had a double earlier in the day, recorded her second of the game to put a runner in scoring position. Hallmark followed with a double of her own to break the 0-0 tie and give CTX a 1-0 lead.

Langland would not allow a hit over the final two frames, inducing back-to-back fly outs in the seventh to complete the doubleheader sweep, winning it 1-0.

The Tornados will go for their second straight series sweep, facing HPU in the finale on Saturday at noon at Lady Jacket Park in Brownwood, Texas.
