BELTON, Texas –
Emily Moses launched her second home run of the season, but it was not enough for the Concordia Texas softball team, falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor 9-5 on Saturday in the regular season finale.
The Tornados looked to salvage the series, after dropping the first two games on Friday against the Cru.
Mary Hardin-Baylor opened the scoring, pushing across a run in the second on a ground out.
Concordia Texas battled back in the following frame though, pushing across three runs.
Erica Riley scored the first run of the game with an RBI double, scoring
Megan Hooper. Moses followed that up with a two-run home run to put the Tornados in front 3-1.
Concordia Texas added to their lead in the next inning on an
Ashley Soto RBI single to extend their advantage to 4-1.
The Tornados ran into trouble in the fifth as the Cru scored eight runs and went back in front with a 9-4 lead.
In the sixth, CTX scratched across a run thanks to a UMHB error, but were unable to muster a comeback to extend the game, falling 9-5.
Riley and Soto each had a pair of hits and an RBI, while Moses had the lone hit, a run scored and two RBIs.
Despite the loss, the Tornados finish as the two seed in the American Southwest Conference West Division and will make their return to the conference tournament for the first time since 2018.
They will travel to Jackson, Miss., where the tournament will be hosted by Belhaven, the one seed out of the ASC East. Concordia Texas will face the winner between Hardin-Simmons and Sul Ross State in a single-elimination game on Thursday at 4 p.m.
