AUSTIN, Texas –
Kaitlyn Ruiz had a team-high 12 assists,
Alyssa Legette had a team-high 12 digs, but the Concordia Texas volleyball team's home opener was spoiled on Saturday, falling to East Texas Baptist 3-0.
The Tornados entered the matchup coming off of a tough loss against No. 1 Trinity last week. In its conference opener against the Tigers, CTX fell 20-25, 17-25 and 18-25.
Kylexus Block, who leads the team in kills so far this season, had a team-high eight on the day along with six digs.
In the opening set, Legette racked up seven digs defensively, but the Tornados were unable to get in a rhythm offensively, and trailed 1-0.
In the following set, freshman
Savannah Kari had four of her seven kills in the frame, hitting at a .222 mark. Concordia Texas pulled even at 15-all midway through the set after an ETBU service error before the Tigers reeled off a 10-2 run to take a 2-0 advantage.
In the final set, ETBU jumped out to an early lead thanks to a 6-1 spurt and led 17-11. The Tornados battled back late in the frame though, winning five straight points, capped off by a Kari kill and forcing a Tigers timeout at 23-18.
Following the timeout, ETBU won the next two points, ending the match in a 3-0 defeat for CTX.
The Tornados will have a quick turnaround and continue their homestand on Tuesday when they will Hardin-Simmons at 6 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
