Kaspar's goal not enough, Tornados fall 2-1 to Cal Lutheran

SAN ANTONIOKaley Kaspar netted her first career goal in the opening minute of the second half, giving the Concordia Texas women's soccer team a 1-0 lead, but they were unable to hold that advantage, ultimately falling 2-1 to Cal Lutheran on Sunday.

Kaspar's score broke a 0-0 tie in the 45th minute, but CLU answered immediately with an equalizer in the following minute and the game-winner 10 minutes later. The Tornados were unable to find another score, and came up short in a 2-1 defeat.

Cal Lutheran attacked early in the first half, firing 10 shots in the first twenty minutes, but solid play in the goal from Lora Tresco kept the Regals at bay.

Emily Mowrer found an early scoring opportunity in the third minute, firing a shot on-goal, but the CLU keeper recorded the save and kept the score equal at 0-0.

Tresco came away with six saves in the first half, preserving the tie with her play in the goal, and the match was equal at 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.

Kaspar opened the second half with a bang, scoring an unassisted goal to break the 0-0 tie. The St. Edwards transfer's first career goal gave the Tornados a 1-0 lead.

In the 56th minute, CLU took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity to take a 2-1 lead in the contest.

The Tornados found one more scoring opportunity in the 77th minute as Erin Folkner fired a shot-on goal, but a save from the CLU keeper saw her come away scoreless. Ultimately, the Tornados fell 2-1.

Marissa Funk recorded a pair of shots in the match, one of them on-goal, and Tresco totaled 11 saves in the net.
