LONGVIEW, Texas –
Kylexus Block recorded her third double-double of the season, but the Concordia Texas volleyball team fell to LeTourneau in five sets on Friday.
Block recorded a team-high 12 kills to go along with 15 digs, and she was a presence at the net, picking up three blocks.
The Tornados took the first two sets of the night, but LETU stormed back and CTX was unable to hold on, ultimately falling three sets to two in a decisive fifth frame.
In the first set, the Tornados hit the ground running, winning 25-12 behind four kills from
Nicole Deering and three kills to go along with a block from
Audri Crawford.
Concordia Texas trailed 13-7 early in the second set, but a kill from Block proved to be the turning point, sparking a 10-2 run to take a 17-15 lead. The Tornados held on to the advantage, taking the second set 25-23 to gain a 2-0 set lead.
In the following set, the Tornados took an early 8-4 lead, but the Yellowjackets turned the set around with a 12-2 run and didn't look back, coming out on top 25-18 despite three kills from Crawford in the set.
The Yellowjackets led 22-10 in the fourth set before six consecutive CTX points, three kills from Block and three service aces from
Sarah Ghormley, brought the Tornados back into striking distance at 16-22. However, it was not enough, and LETU held on to win the frame 25-18.
Ghormley and Block each picked up a kill in the decisive fifth set, but the Tornados were unable to bounce back, falling 15-7 in the final frame.
Ghormley had a near double-double, recording 12 kills and nine digs, and Deering totaled 10 kills and a pair of blocks.
Abi Hilpert was a force at the net, penciling in a career-high five blocks, and
Alyssa Legette had 37 assists on the night.
The Tornados will look to bounce back with a quick turnaround, continuing their road stint with a trip to Richardson, Texas to take on UT Dallas at 2 pm.
