RICHARDSON, Texas –
Sarah Ghormley recorded a near double-double, but her performance was not enough as the Concordia Texas volleyball fell 3-0 on the road to UT Dallas on Saturday.
Ghormley picked up nine kills and nine digs on the day, but the Tornados were unable to thwart a strong UT Dallas team, dropping their second straight road match.
The Comets controlled much of the first two sets, but a resilient CTX squad battled throughout the third set, going back-and-forth with UTD but ultimately coming up short, losing three sets to one.
In the first set,
Audri Crawford led the Tornados' attack, coming away with two kills, but CTX dropped the frame 25-9.
The Tornados took a quick 3-0 lead in the second set behind kills from
Kylexus Block and
Nicole Deering, but the Comets answered, eventually taking an 11-9 lead. After this point, the Tornados suffered a 12-0 run, and UTD eventually took set two by a score of 25-13. Ghormley penciled in two kills and a service ace on the frame.
With their backs against the wall, the Tornados refused to quit, battling throughout the third and final set. Ghormley led the charge with five kills in the frame, aided by a pair of service aces from
Alyssa Legette and
Kaitlyn Ruiz, but the Tornados were unable to force another set, falling 25-22 in a hard-fought third frame.
Legette finished the match with 16 assists and seven digs, and Ruiz recorded a team-high 11 digs. Block provided a strong effort, doing a bit of everything with five kills, two blocks, and seven digs.
Concordia Texas will look to bounce back in the third contest of their four-match road stint, traveling to Alpine, Texas for an ASC matchup with Sul Ross State on Tuesday at 6 pm.
