SAN ANTONIO –
Xavier Polk headed in his first goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas men's soccer team fell short to No. 12 Trinity 3-1 on Sunday.
The Tornados, who were facing the Tigers for the first time in program history, racked up 19 total shots, seven of them on frame, but were only able to find the back of the net once.
In the first half,
Marco Vazquez and CTX were on the offensive, pressuring the TU defense. Vazquez tallied three shots in the first 17 minutes but none were on target.
Trinity broke through the Tornados' defense in the 22nd minute, scoring the game's first goal.
The Tigers would double their lead in the 27th minute, scoring their second goal of the night.
Zack Kusak, who scored a goal in CTX's season opener, nearly cut the deficit in half in the 38th minute, but his shot was saved.
Trinity added another goal in the half and led 3-0 as the teams headed into halftime.
In the second half, the Tornados looked to cut in the Tigers' lead, registering 12 shots, including one by
Melvin Molina in the 51st minute, but it was defended well.
Polk put CTX on the board in the 76th minute, heading in a corner kick from teammate
Christian Barillas to make it 3-1.
The Tornados fired two more shots on-goal in the game's final minutes, but were unable to chip away at Trinity's advantage and fell 3-1.
Concordia Texas will now turn their attention to LeTourneau, opening conference play on the road on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Longview, Texas.
