LONGVIEW, Texas –
Emily Mowrer led an offensive outburst, notching two goals in the first half, as the Concordia Texas women's soccer team took a 5-1 victory over LeTourneau in their conference opener on Thursday.
Mowrer knocked in the game-winner in the ninth minute, her first career goal, and added on a second goal in the 18th minute, scoring two of the Tornados' five goals in an impressive offensive display, and assisted on CTX's first goal of the game.
LeTourneau's lone goal came early on, finding a quick opportunity in the second minute and taking a 1-0 lead.
The Tornados answered quickly as
Kaley Kaspar fired the equalizer after an assist from Mowrer, tying the match at 1-1 in the fifth minute.
After a shot on-goal from
Elisa LeBoeuf, Mowrer converted her first goal of the contest, assisted by Kaspar. In just nine minutes, Concordia Texas led 2-1.
Mowrer pressed the attack, recording a shot in the 11th minute and finding the back net seven minutes later, scoring an unassisted goal and giving the Tornados a 3-1 lead in the 18th minute.
Next,
Kallie Krenz penciled in her name on the stat sheet, extending the CTX lead to 4-1 with a goal of her own in the 23rd minute.
Kaley Kaspar assisted on the play, her second of the night.
Marissa Funk and
Stephanie Quezada were in the mix, each of them firing shots in the final ten minutes of the half, and the Tornados entered halftime with a 4-1 lead.
Jenna Townsley scored the fifth and final CTX goal after an assist from
Lauren Wenzel, giving the Tornados a 5-1 advantage in the 69th minute that would last the remainder of the game. After 90 minutes, the Tornados took home a 5-1 victory.
Lora Tresco played all 90 minutes in the goal, recording four saves in a stout effort overall by the CTX defense. LeBoeuf totaled three shots, two of them on goal, and
Emma Visser fired a shot on-goal.
With the victory, the Tornados improve to 2-4 overall and a perfect 1-0 in ASC play. Next, CTX will be back in action on the road, traveling to Marshall, Texas for an ASC matchup with East Texas Baptist on Saturday at 5 pm.
