BELTON, Texas –
Sarah Ghormley had a team-high 16 kills, while
Avery Smith had a career-high 16 digs but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas volleyball team fell short 3-0 to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday.
The Tornados, who were concluding their four-game conference road trip on Friday night, hit .333 as a team in the second set, but were unable to extend the match, falling in three sets 8-25, 26-28, 10-25.
Concordia Texas had a slow start in the opening set and fell behind 1-0.
In the following set, Ghormley and
Kylexus Block combined for 18 of the team's 20 kills in a back and forth affair.
The set witnessed 14 ties and nine lead changes, including Ghormley's 12th kill of the set to give the Tornados a 23-22 edge. Mary Hardin-Baylor won four of the final five points though and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the final set, the Cru opened on an 11-0 run and never looked back, wrapping up the match in the three sets.
Block finished with eight kills, while
Alyssa Legette, who set a career-high in assists on Tuesday, finished the match with a team-high 29 assists.
Meanwhile, Smith, the freshman out of Houston, finished with a career-high 16 digs as did junior
Nicole Deering.
Next up, CTX will head home to host Belhaven on Sunday at 1 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse. The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but moved up after a change in the Blazers' travel plans.
