MARSHALL, Texas –
Carlos Huato was there for the rebound off
Melvin Molina's shot and scored his first career goal as the Concordia Texas men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against East Texas Baptist on Saturday.
The Tornados, who scored a season-high six goals on Thursday in their win over LeTourneau, remained on the offensive attack against the Tigers, tallying a total of 40 shots, 14 of them on goal, over 110 minutes of play.
In the first half, CTX registered 12 shots, led by Huato who recorded four of his own, including one on goal in the 32nd minute which was blocked by the ETBU defense.
The Tornados, despite pressing offensively, were unable to find the back of the net in the period and headed to the locker room in a scoreless bout.
In the second half, the Tigers went in front in the 50th minute, scoring the game's first goal for a 1-0 lead.
Concordia Texas responded in the 66th minute as Molina's one-on-one shot was saved by ETBU's Cristian Hernandez, but Huato followed close behind and fired the rebounded save into the net to even the game at 1-all.
Molina nearly scored his own goal in the 71st minute, but Hernandez and the Tigers were there for the save to keep the game tied.
After 90 minutes, the score remained tied and the teams headed into extra time.
In extra time, the Tornados held ETBU to zero shots, while recording 13 of their own between the two periods, but could not break through the defense and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Next, CTX will return home to host UT Dallas on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
