MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team finished its road trip by traveling to East Texas Baptist, but the Tornados were unable to win their second straight game, falling to the Tigers 61-37.
The Tornados were unable to get the offense going, and they could not shoot their way back from an early deficit.
Meanwhile,
Mikayla Johnson provided a strong showing on the offensive end, posting a team-high 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
The first quarter got off to a slow start as
Kennedy Donovan supplied the Tornados' first basket at the 6:20 mark, bringing the score to 4-2.
Later in the period,
Chelsea Cogborn hit a pair of free throws and
Falyn Taylor found the mark with a three-pointer, keeping CTX within striking distance at 13-9 after the opening quarter.
Johnson and
Havyn Perez provided the Tornados' only field goals in the second quarter with a pair of three-pointers, and an 8-0 ETBU run to close out the half saw the Tornados enter halftime trailing 30-15.
In the third quarter, Donovan scored four of her six points, starting with a long-range jumper to bring the score to 33-18 with 7:48 left in the period.
Johnson and
Allie Garza supplied a couple of three-pointers in the quarter, but the Tigers continued to extend their lead. Heading into the final quarter, the Tornados were behind 50-26.
Johnson hit two more three-pointers in the fourth quarter, bringing her point total to double figures, and
Jennika Willis put out five points in the period with a three-ball and a strong finish at the rim.
Concordia Texas played ETBU to stalemate in the final quarter as each team scored 11 points, but the existing deficit was too much. After the final buzzer, the Tornados fell 61-37.
This concludes the Tornados' weekend road trip, and CTX will return home on Tuesday for an ASC matchup with Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5:30 p.m. in Concordia Fieldhouse.
