AUSTIN, Texas –
Havyn Perez scored a team-high 18 points, her fourth straight double-digit output, but it was not enough against No. 21 Hardin-Simmons, falling 84-56 on Saturday inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados had been winners of two straight, including a win over McMurry on Thursday, before facing the nationally ranked Cowgirls.
Concordia Texas had a sluggish start in the opening quarter and trailed 15-7 after one. They bounced back in the following quarter, using a 7-0 spurt to pull within three after
Jennika Willis' three-point play.
Hardin-Simmons responded with a run of their own, scoring the next 17 points to take their largest lead of the half.
Perez had six points in the half, but the Tornados trailed 36-16.
In the third quarter, CTX had their most efficient period of the day, scoring 21 points and shooting 47% from the floor.
Allie Garza was a key contributor in the quarter, scoring six of her eight points.
In the fourth, Perez had her best quarter of the game, scoring eight points as the Tornados took advantage of the Cowgirls' seven turnovers, converting them into 10 points.
Concordia Texas was unable to close the gap though, falling to HSU 84-56, snapping their two-game win streak.
Off the bench,
Chelsea Cogborn went 4-of-4 from the charity stripe, producing six points and five rebounds on the day, while
Allese Crutcher added four points and three boards.
Next, the Tornados will begin a four-game road trip with their first stop against UT Dallas on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Richardson, Texas.
