AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team outlasted East Texas Baptist in a five-set thriller. Seniors
Sarah Ghormley (22 digs, 10 kills) and
Jaya McCarty (12 kills, 10 digs) tallied double-doubles in front of a rowdy crowd on Saturday.
Selena Cooper served as a helping hand all match with a career-high 49 assists, while
Alyssa Legette posted 13 digs.
Kinsy Haschke had a team-high 20 kills, while
Camryn Parker also reached double figures with 11 kills and six blocks.
ETBU led the Tornados 22-20 late in the first set before scoring the final three points of game one. Both teams were tied 20-20 when CTX surged ahead with a kill by
Darby Stowers securing a 5-1 run to tie the match at 1-1.
Concordia Texas was up 22-19 near the end of set three, but the Tigers used a 6-1 burst to end the third set and take a 2-1 advantage. The Tornados raced to a 7-3 lead in the fourth set, and rode the momentum to a convincing 25-22 win to force a game five.
Tied 3-3 early in the final set, a kill by Haschke capped an 8-2 run to give the Tornados breathing room. CTX would survive a late run by ETBU to win the last game 15-10 and earn the match victory.
Concordia Texas will next host Sul Ross State this Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m.
