ALPINE, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball utilized a balanced effort to sweep the Sul Ross State Lobos.
Selena Cooper (34 assists, three aces),
Kaitlyn Ruiz (14 digs) and
Kinsy Haschke (13 kills) all posted game-highs inside the Gallego Center on Saturday.
Following a kill by
Sarah Ghormley to put CTX up 14-13 in the first set, the Lobos used a 4-0 run to regain the lead. The Tornados responded when a kill by
Camryn Parker sparked a 10-1 burst to help give the them a 25-19 game one win.
Both teams battled back-and-forth in an intense game two that featured 12 ties and six lead changes. With the score tied 24-24 late in the set, an error by Sul Ross and a kill by Haschke gave CTX a 2-0 advantage in the match.
With both teams tied 11-all midway through the third set, the Tornados took control when a kill by
Rayna Pack initiated a 11-3 flurry. Trying to stay alive late in the set, the Lobos produced a 7-1 run before a kill by Haschke gave the Tornados the 3-0 sweep.
CTX will look to finish their three-match road trip unblemished when they travel to Abilene, Texas on Tuesday, Oct. 4 for a 6 p.m. showdown with Hardin-Simmons.
