ABILENE, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team fell in five sets to ASC foe Hardin-Simmons. A trio of Tornados in
Sarah Ghormley (22 digs, 15 kills),
Kinsy Haschke (22 kills, 15 digs) and
Selena Cooper (48 assists, 12 digs) all posted double-doubles inside Mabee Complex on Tuesday.
Kaitlyn Ruiz tallied 21 digs while
Camryn Parker totaled a career-high 12 kills in her freshman campaign.
Up 10-8 in set one, the Cowboys surged ahead to claim the game due to a 10-3 run. The Tornados tied the match at one game apiece with a 6-0 run midway through set two to help give them the win.
An 8-2 run by the Cowboys in game three, gave them a 16-9 advantage midway through set three. A kill by Parker sparked a 5-0 burst by the Tornados to bring them with 16-13. Both teams would trade runs again later in the set, but the Cowboys survived the Tornados' comeback effort to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set four was the most competitive up to that point as set as CTX held a slight 23-21 advantage. They would go on to force game five following a kill by Ghormley. Hardin-Simmons raced to a 9-3 lead in the final set, but a kill by Parker capped off a a 7-0 run to give the Tornados their first lead of the set. Ultimately, the Cowboys were able to outlast Concordia with a 15-13 edge for the match victory.
Following a three-match road trip, CTX will return back home this Friday to host McMurry at 6 PM.
