ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's soccer team used a strong second half to propel themselves to a 3-1 victory over Howard Payne.
Theo Givens had his second multi-score game, and
Melvin Molina had his second multi-assist match of the season as he scored twice inside the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex on Thursday.
Sophomore defender
Cameron Burleson notched his first collegiate goal, and junior goalkeeper
Joshua Redding tallied seven saves.
CTX fired eight more shot attempts (19-11) and tripled the Yellowjackets in corner kicks at 6-2.
Givens opened up the scoring when he found space in traffic off an assist from
Marco Rodriguez Jr. in the 19th minute. Following a foul inside the penalty box in the 34th minute, HPU knotted the match up heading into the half.Â
Almost immediately in the second half, Molina fired a corner kick into the box where Burleson headed it in for a 2-1 lead. Givens scored on a counterattack when
Gavin Seeholtz and Molina led the charge to put the match away and give Concordia the 3-1 triumph.
