AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team protected home court in a four-set win over Hardin-Simmons. Senior outside hitter
Sarah Ghormley tallied her first career 20-20, double double (21 digs, 20 kills) inside the CTX Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Grad senior
Kinsy Haschke posted a career-high 24 kills to go along with 15 digs. Freshman
Selena Cooper shined with a game-high 40 assists, while sophomore
Kaitlyn Ruiz added 20 digs.
Up 16-14 in the first set, the Tornados surged to a 25-16 victory when a kill by Haschke secured a 9-2 run to end the game.
The Tornados sprinted to a 7-1 advantage in set two. The Cowboys fought their way back into the game to take an 18-17 lead. With the set tied 20-20, a kill by Ghormley gave CTX separation with a 4-2 run. She would then give the Tornados a 2-0 advantage in the match with an emphatic kill for a 25-23 win.
Hardin-Simmons was up 16-14, before using a 9-5 surge to extend the series to a game four. Concordia used another 7-1 burst to start set four. They would lead by as many as eight points, before HSU cut the deficit to 23-19 late in the set. The Tornados scored the last two points to earn a hard fought victory.
CTX will host ETBU next Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
