RICHARDSON, Texas - In day one of the UT-Dallas Classic, The Concordia Texas women's basketball team battled in a 66-45 decision against #2 Transylvania University. Mikayla Johnson and Mackenzie Berger tallied nine points apiece to lead the Tornados inside the UTD Activity Center on Friday.
Johnson scored the first field goal of the game with a three to give CTX an early 3-1 lead. Transylvania would answer by finishing the first quarter on a 22-6 run.
Both teams would trade buckets in the second frame. A steal by Havyn Perez (5 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists) would result in a layup by Berger late in the first half. The Pioneers would then respond with a three to keep their lead at 14 points with a 37-23 advantage at the half.
Transylvania would put the game out of reach with a 19-0 run to start the third quarter to keep a comfortable distance and secure the win.
Concordia Texas will now face off against Covenant College (Ga.) in day two of the UT-Dallas Classic on tomorrow, Nov. 19 at 1:00 p.m.
