Balanced Effort Lifts Men's Basketball Past Texas Lutheran

A quartet of Tornados reached double figure scoring.

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's basketball team outlasted Texas Lutheran University by a score of 82-69 in day one of the Southwestern's Paul Peak Classic. A quartet of Tornados reached double figure scoring as they outscored the Bulldogs 31-6 in bench points inside the Robertson Center on Saturday.

DJ Pigford led the scoring charge with 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Donovan Stafford added 15 points. Freshman Deon Williams (10 points, 9 rebounds) flirted with a double-double, and Dylen Scales also posted 10 points in his best game in the young season. Luis Gonzalez added 11 points and seven boards to complete the well-rounded, double-digit scoring for CTX. 

Both teams exchanged baskets early as both teams were locked at 21-all at the under 8-minute timeout. Concordia would gain control with a 14-6 burst in the final seven minutes to carry a 35-27 advantage into the half.

With the score at 45-41 with just over 13 minutes left, CTX utilized a 24-7 flurry to go up by 21 points with just over eight minutes remaining. TLU was able to cut the deficit down to single digits at 69-61 with 3:12 remaining, but the Tornados would hold strong for the victory.

Concordia Texas will be back in action tomorrow  for day to of the Paul Peak Classic to take on Schreiner University in a rematch from a week this past week. Tip off is set for 2:30 p.m.
