GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's basketball team was bested by a score of 101-90 in day two of the Southwestern's Paul Peak Classic. Freshman Jaylon Johnson dropped career-highs of 20 points and five rebounds inside the Robertson Center on Sunday.
It was another up-and-down affair in the rematch from last week as there were 10 ties and nine lead changes today. The Tornados outscored the Mountaineers 39-28 in bench points, while Schreiner saw a 31-22 advantage in fast break points.
Concordia trailed 31-30 with 6:45 left in the first, before a steal by Antoine Henderson resulted in a layup by Branden Myart to cap off a 8-0 run for CTX. The Mountaineers would later answer with a 13-2 run to help give them a 48-43 advantage at the half.
Chipping away at the deficit, a layup by Johnson made it a 73-71 game with just under nine minutes remaining. Schreiner would respond by pushing their lead back up to double-digits, but CTX would counterpunch once again when a block & three-pointer by Stafford made the score 86-82 at the 3:05 mark. This would be the closest the Tornados would come as the Mountaineers would hold on for the victory.
Concordia Texas will next head back home where they will host St. Thomas next Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2:30 pm.
