GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team never trailed in what was a 60-41 defensive masterpiece in the regular season opener against Southwestern University.
Mikayla Johnson (15 points),
Mackenzie Berger (13 points off the bench) and
Havyn Perez (11 points) all reached double figures scoring inside the Corbin Robertson Center on Tuesday.
Zakari Perry led all players with seven rebounds, while Perez totaled a game-high of three assists.
The Tornados smothered the Pirates defensively, only allowing four points in the first quarter.
Madi Maxwell then hit a three-pointer to spark an 11-1 flurry to open the second quarter. Perez would score the final three points of the half to help CTX to a 32-16 lead entering the intermission.
With the game in hand, Concordia would leave no doubt as their lead would balloon to 28 points midway through the fourth. They would then cruise to a victory in the season opener.
Concordia Texas will now host Holy Patriot in their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m..
