AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team won their third straight game with a 65-62 victory over Sul Ross. Guard Alena Johnston had her highest scoring output as a Tornado with a team-high 14 points inside the CTX Fieldhouse on Monday.
The Tornados led by as many as seven points twice in the first half before entering the intermission with 31-29 advantage. Concordia came out of the half strong as Chelsea Cogborn put back her own miss to spark a 7-0 run.Â
The Lobos answered with a 10-0 run, but Havyn Perez would find Jordan Bravo on a beautiful feed under the rim to give CTX back the lead at 40-39.
Concordia would take their lead into the final frame, until Sul Ross knotted the game up at 53-53 with 5:32 remaining. Following a media timeout, Perez would dish the ball to Bravo again for a layup to give the Tornados the advantage.Â
CTX would protect a lead where Sul Ross connected on a second-chance three to make the score 63-62 with 10 seconds left. Bailey Andrews would then step up to the charity stripe to knock down a pair of free throws to give Concordia a 65-62 lead. With only one more chance remaining, the Lobos were unable to get a shot off as the Tornados held on for conference victory.
Concordia Texas will now enjoy Christmas Break before hosting Texas Lutheran on Friday, Dec. 30th. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
